Custom Cheeks Kit allows you to customize outer/cover fabric (PUL) color, liner fabric (Suedecloth) color, soaker cloth color, and snap color.
Our kit consists predominately of three types of fabric:
- PUL (pronounced "pull") – is 100% polyester fabric that has been laminated on one side with polyurethane (hence the acronym P.U.L. or PolyUrethane Laminate). This amazing fabric is waterproof yet breathable, making it ideal for use with cloth diapering. It was created for the medical field, so it can withstand repeated high-heat laundering. It is machine washable on hot or cold and machine dryable on high heat. Bleach does not affect the color of PUL. (I have read some places that people have even mended small leaks in PUL by subjecting it to a high heat environment to reseal the polyurethane coating.) [picture of PUL]
- Suedecloth (or suede cloth) – is 100% polyester fabric. Oddly enough, suedecloth is often used for costumes. What makes it perfect for use in cloth diapers is that it is extremely soft to the touch, keeps baby feeling dry because it doesn't absorb moisture, and is highly stain-resistant (even with breastfed babies). It can also withstand the washing conditions necessitated by cloth diapering, including bleaching. [picture of Suedecloth]
- Microterry (or microfiber terrycloth) – is 80% polyester and 20% ___ fabric. Polyester can't absorb moisture but there are thousands of tiny fibers in this fabric that actually trap the moisture between them. That is why it is able to hold many times its weight (up to eight) in moisture, unlike cotton and other soaker fabrics. It is great for diapering because it's light, absorbs quickly, and dries quickly. It is best to dry microterry on low or line dry. Most of our liners are colored because it's fun and conceals any staining that may occur; bleach will not affect the color. [pictures of green, blue, and white soaker pads]
With your kit, you will also receive:
Polybraid Elastic – Our kits use ¼" elastic that is a polyester and rubber blend. It tough enough to withstand the frequent laundering cloth diapers require.
Touch Tape (or Touchtape) – is 100% nylon. It is a hook and loop material similar to Velcro and Aplix, however, Touch Tape has a stronger grip.
